Minneapolis Skyline on a Cloudy Day

Minneapolis Cloudy Skyline

We recently visited the Mall of America on an overcast, rainy day. As we pulled into the parking ramp I could see the Minneapolis skyline behind me, and saw an opportunity to go up to the roof and try taking some pictures. I think they turned out pretty well. I liked the first one because I played around with it more and got a more unique crop on it. I wish it was just a little bit brighter, or had more clarity in the buildings though. On the right, you can see the new football stadium being built for the Minnesota Vikings, creatively dubbed the ‘New Minnesota Stadium’. Here are a few more shots:

The stadium is going to be a very impressive piece of architecture once it’s done. Instead of a retractable roof, they opted to use glass. You can see how large it is going to be in these artists renderings, and see how it is starting to take shape.

The stadium has faced some controversy though. The Audobon Society of Minnesota has said that all of the glass, combined with its close proximity to the Mississippi River, could make it a “death trap” for migratory birds. They are urging the Minnesota Vikings to use a special type of glass which helps to prevent the birds from running into it.

It is expected to be completed in 2016. It will be cool to have a new, extremely modern-looking addition to the skyline!
