Red Milkweed Beetle

Red Milkweed Beetle

We have Milkweed plants in our backyard, and they attract some interesting insects. Normally we get a lot of Monarch Butterfly caterpillars on them (Milkweed is the only thing the caterpillars eat) but this year we have gotten some different ones. Here is a Red Milkweed Beetle. He was a bit shy, and would move around the other side of a leaf when I got close. They seem to eat the leaves and the budding flowers.
